Phyllis Shenny paused her fine arts work during a successful career as an art director but restarted her art journey in photography in 2006 during a car ride in the rain. Her BFA from Parson’s and her design career are significantly visible in her vibrantly altered photographs.
She began exhibiting in 2015 and awards and sales soon followed. Learning that creating with the attitude of play was more fun led to better results and lower cortisol levels. A breast cancer survivor herself, she began teaching what she does in the Cancer Support Community to help others destress and enjoy the creative process while healing.
Phyllis has been teaching since 2017 and has won 26 awards including 1 Best in Show, 8 First Place, and multiple Second, Third and Honorable Mentions. In addition, Phyllis was a photography judge for the 2022 Patron of the Arts Show, and for the 2019, 2022 and 2023 Ramapo Valley Women’s Art Show. She is a current member of The NAWA (National Association of Women Artists.)
